View Full Version : Olds Silhoutte ac and tranny trouble?

I have a 1999 Olds Silhoutte with 50k miles. I was running my ac today, the
temp was about 98 degrees and every time my tranny had to change gears it kind
of pushed or lightly banged into gear. I had the tranny fluid and filter
changed last week. I shut off the ac and when I ran the car later on, it
shifted pretty good with no banging or pushing into gear. Could the ac have
been the cause or did someone ever run across this and what did you do? TIA

Rennyboy,

Your A/C system puts an enormous load on your engine. It can use up to
15 HP. The fact that it was acting differently, is no surprise. Loss off
power, shifts different, economy? Your power-train computer compensates for
road conditions and loads. It will change the transmission shift-points for
optimum performance.

Just a thought from a GM mechanic.

Thanks GM Dude. I was hoping that was the problem and not the tranny.
