Default 2002 Malibu ELECTIC AND A/C ISSUES

I own a 2002 Malibu LS which was purchased new. Currently it runs
okay, but starting it is often tough and the electical system appears
to go in and out intermittently. I was driving it to work two
mornings ago, it was dark, so hit the high beams. As soon as I did
this, all of the display lights, radio, everything blanked for about
two seconds, and my clock reset to 12:00. After this, my Brake light
and ABS light were illuminated until I shut off my car. I have also
experienced the same "no start" problem every other malibu owner has
experienced to include the a/c problem with switch 1,2,3 and the
intermittent A/C on and off which calls for the $170 control panel.
Any suggestions on the electrical problem I am currently having. I
don’t feel like paying someone 55 an hour to do something I might be
able to do myself. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my AC switch for the 1, 2, and 3 settings.
It was a resistor switch that had to be replaced and now works fine.
The only problem they could not help me with was the AC going on and
off by itself. It would go from cold to warm and the AC "on" light
would blink on and off. I took it to the dealer and he could not
repeat the problem. Sure enough the next day it happened again.

I am having the same problem with my a/c. Had an extended warranty that covered part of it. I took it in for them to fix it. They replaced the compressor(covered under warranty) and a high pressure valve (not covered $50, total BS). Got it back only to have it do the same thing with the AC cutting on and off sporatically. Took it back. They noted that my battery was leaking acid and said it had eaten through some wired and a harness under the battery and wasnt covered. So I picked it, rather ticked off. Got it home popped the hood to look for the damage, there’s not a single wiring bundle or harness near there! Anyone else have a solution to this?

a/c cut off; prob is in a/c control mocule in the dash. any GM tech that
hasnt seen this multiple times must have graduated tech school this past
week.....nice of them to R&R comp. i guess. at least they tried....
battery leakage; delco batteries have been leaking around Pos. terminal
for years also (only 75 and 78 series batteries manuf. in Indy). only
damage i have had consistantly is w/shield washer pump and related
wiring. you might want to mix up a solution of a box of baking soda and a
gal. of water to pour over area.................................kjun

Default 2002 Malibu ELECTIC AND A/C ISSUES

There are many postings pointing to faulty or intermittent ignition switches
as the source of all sorts of electrical gremlins
