Dude, by the time the oil light comes on it's too late. It means it's
running without oil pressure. That engine is almost certainly trashed.
Sorry.

You may try some of the "miracle" products that supposedly increase
compression, fix oil leaks, etc. (example:
http://www.atvconnection.com/atvcon...ne-Restorer.cfm )
.. It's certainly not going to hurt at this point. I have never tried any,
but it may get you a little further down the road to the next engine or car.

I hate to say it but agree with the other post: Your engine is most likely
blown.
It is often not worth rebuilding an engine by a mechanic because of the time
it will take as opposed to replacing it with a junk yard engine.

If it is a fairly new car, that may be a worthwhile option. If it is older,
you may want to think about junking the car (donate it so you can write if
off your taxes, perhaps) and replacing it.

I don't mean anything by this, but buy the "car maintenance for dummies"
book so that you can alleviate this problem on your next car. Learn to do
basic maintenance and learn to listen to your car.

Hope I am wrong.
Remco

in my opinion, id find a decent mileage engine and a salvage yard and have
it installed, 97 isnt that old and if the car is in otherwise good shape, id
do it.
