Mk2 power?
There's a Mk2 MR2 for sale near me (I'm in the UK), and I'm trying to pin
down which model it is.
It's a 1991 manual coupe, dark blue, and doesn't have a rear spoiler. It has
electric mirrors and windows, and is fitted with a sunroof. Don't know if
the sunroof is electric (should it be?). The advert makes no mention of
aircon or leather. It's described as a "2.0 Sports".
I gather from reading elsewhere that the UK non-spoiler model has a lower
powered engine of about 120bhp, and has the spec designator 'G' (not G-Ltd,
which is a grey import in the UK). Is it the case that all non-spoiler
models (worldwide) were fitted with this engine, or could this car be a more
powerful spoilerless import? Also read that it has "only one cam driven by
the belt". Should I take this to mean that it's a single cam, or that the
other cam is driven by something else (like a short belt or chain between
the two cams)?
Cheers,

Wally,
try one of the mailing lists such as imoc.co.uk, you'll get better info
there.
But I think it'll be the 118BHP model.

I tend to the same view, from what I've been able to find out so far. I'm
not familiar with the various import models, so want to be sure that there
aren't any potential gotchas with the car I'm interested in (like wrong
mileage or something - don't know much about the pitfalls of buying a
personal import).

Do you have access to the owners manual for you car?

The car above wasn't my car, but one I was interested in. Turned out it had
been advertised by mistake (reinserted incorrectly by the advert people a
few weeks after the car had been sold). The car I do have is the one I just
bought today - a low mileage '96 GT n/a in red.
No, I don't have a manual for it. I gather Haynes (UK independent publisher
of workshop manuals) didn't produce one for the MR2, so I guess I'd have to
find a genuine Toyota one.

I ment the owner manual, it will have the engine code in it and from
that WIKI has a really good section on MR2 motors.
