The warning lights for my alternator, ABS and ABD on my 97 993 has comeon. Does this usually mean a bad alternator or maybe a worn/brokenalternator belt? Cars going in for repair, but I was hoping to get someidea of what the problem may be beforehand. Thanks in advance for anyresponses.

Many 993s were recalled for a bad engine wiring harness ---
apparently made using substandard insulation --- wire cracks and
shorts were common.
My '96 993 looked okay (but was replaced anyway) --- but another one
I saw looked terrible....lots of bare wires.
Also could be a diode on the alternator --- had a problem with one in
my '87 911 --- started doing all sorts of weird things (e.g.,
seatbelt light flashing between shifts). Have heard stories that when
the diode block goes --- and AC current is injected into the system
--- most solid state circuits in the car are fried --- big bills
follow.
Good luck - let us know what the cause was.
