Ironically, I found this n/g a few days ago to address a situation
nearly identical to the one you describe. I've owned a 1987 911 since
new, mostly in New Hampshire, where I keep it garaged during the (seems
like) 11-month winter. Circumstances led me to leave my 911 in that
unheated, barn-like garage space for over two years, ending a week ago.
It was covered (birds get into the rafters inside the garage), it was
jacked up onto lifts to keep the tires off the ground and the battery
was disconnected. I expected to get it back on the road in the spring
of 2005, but didn't. After two years I found:
Light mold covered all interior surfaces and a strong moldy odor has
persisted even after detailing (the reason I discovered this n/g was to
deal with that problem).
The battery went dead anyway (it was old and in poor shape).
Mice got in and set up housekeeping in the front trunk.
I had the car towed to the exotic shop which has serviced my 911 for 17
years. They did not find any signs of corrosion, rust, compromised
belts or rubber or other ill mechanical effects. The car runs like
CRAZY, I'm happy to say.
I now know, from reading this n/g, that I should have used some sort of
battery treatment (don't really know what that is but I'll find out),
that I should have put some sort of tin sheets between the stands that
held up my car and the car itself so mice couldn't climb up, and that
covering the car for so long likely caused the mold problem.
Hope some of this info is helpful to you.

How bad is it when a Porsche 911 '87 still for 2 years without any precautions ? It is not in an ideal dry garage. The interior seems ok, but I wonder about electronics, inside of the engine etc. Thanks Ender
