Servicing recomdations in Fife
Living in Kirkcaldy (KY2) and I need a 48k mile service for my 2002 156 2.0
JTS. It is now out of warranty, so don't need a genuine Alfa garage, but I
want a decent (reliable) garage to service it. There is an Arnold Clark
Fiat/Alfa garage just along the road from me, but they don't seem very good.
I had to tell them which type of oil my JTS engine required when I called in
to buy some (Selenia racing according to manual) and even then they had to
order its specially - I would expect an alfa garage to stock alfa oil!!
I am looking for a decent local garage that won't charge me the earth! This
could be an expensive service as the car will need discs all round and
probably pads too. The airbag red light is on. Plus the familiar 'clunk' is
back in the rear suspension (bushes if I remember correctly). They have been
replaced at every service so far - is there something that can be done to
prevent them from going so often (other than not driving the car)?
Anyone give me an idea of costs for this little bundle?
Also, there is a lot of talk of cambelts (I think?) in this group. When
should it be changed to avoid the engine eating itself one day! Again, cost?
I have enquired about servicing before, but it was a few months ago and the
reply has long gone from my newsgroup servers.
I am tempted to just bite the bullet and take it back 'home' to the Alfa
garage on Gorgie Rd, Edinburgh. That is where is has been serviced since new
and whilst expensive, sometimes you are better off with the 'devil you
know'.
