Default Octane/RON, etc

Hi guys, I have just bought my first Audi (A6 3.2 FSI Q - 2004) and am new
to the group.

I have been an avid Saab owner (I still have kept the 9-3 conv for the wife)
for eight years but was impressed with my Audi dealer and car range.

So I apologies if my question has been asked before - please point me to the
thread, I did have a quick search - what fuel type are you A6 drivers using
V Power, Ultimate, Tesco 99 RON or usual supermarket offering?

Thanks in advanced

I run my RS6 on nothing but V Power (previously Optimax).

Surely your manual tells you what to use?

Mike your right it should do - and I will check when I pick the car up next
week, unless anyone within the group can enlighten me

However, although an engine maybe designed to run on 95 RON the ECU may be
configured to permit a higher octane fuel that fires at a lower temperature
that claims to give you a cleaner engine and slightly better performance.

I was only looking for an opinion from seasoned owners who may claim that
advances in fuel - like V-power - may provide better mileage, acceleration,
etc than the 95 RON the manual may suggests.

Sorry if I was vague.

Mick

I believe that most Audis (as sold in the UK) are designed to run on
98RON, but with the ability to use 95RON with some degredation in
performance.

I know VW/Audi engines (as with many others) can vary their spark
timing/mixture a bit to compensate for *lower* octane ratings than those
recommended; for instance, my '03 Passat's manual recommends that 90+
AKI be used (roughly equivalent to 93 or 94 RON IIRC) but states that
lower octane can be used with some reduction in performance. But I
don't know whether they will take advantage of higher octane ratings
than the recommended value.

Thanks for the info.

I think I will try V-Power - as the guy with the R6 states and from what
Peter claims, however, I will try and keep track of mpg, etc and see if the
extra cost is worth it.

Will let you know if interested.
