Is there a way to disable the auto doorlock feature (the doors lock when
shifting out of park)? Makes me nuts. I've been through the manual and the
programmable system, no luck. Maybe a dealer thing? Thanks.

shifted into PARK (P) and the key is turned to OFF.
Mode 2: This mode is only available with the
remote keyless entry system (if equipped). All doors

the transaxle is shifted into PARK (P) and the key
is turned to OFF.
Mode 3: All doors automatically lock when the transaxle
is shifted out of PARK (P). No automatic door unlock.
Mode 4: No automatic door lock or unlock.
Before your vehicle was shipped from the factory it was
programmed in Mode 1. To determine the current
mode of the vehicle or to change to a different mode,
do the following:
1. Ensure the shift lever is in PARK (P) and all doors
are fully closed throughout this procedure. Turn the
ignition to ON.
2. Press and hold LOCK on either power door lock
switch for 10 seconds. Release the switch when
you hear the chime.
3. Count the number of chimes you hear. The number
of chimes tells you which mode your vehicle is in.
You can change the mode by pressing and
holding LOCK on the power door lock switch
(two chimes for Mode 2, three chimes for Mode 3
and four chimes for Mode 4).
4, Repeat Step 2 until you hear the number of chimes
that matches the mode you want.
The mode you selected is now set.

That didn't do it. It beeps once no matter how often you try that. I guess
they changed the system somewhere along the way.

owners manual will tell you how to do it.

Yeah, I've been over the manual very carefully. It claims it can't be
turned off but I have other plans.

Thanks. It seems like they go overboard on automatic stuff. Like the
instruments for instance. If you turn the lights on manually, the
instruments don't light up (unless it's really dark outside). Kind of weird
behavior.

Can't speak for Malibu, but any GM car I've ever owned did not work that
way. May be worth checking out to be sure that is normal.

It's driven by the sensor on the dash. I drove around with that thing
covered by a piece of paper for about a week, and the instruments were lit
up all the time. That's one way of getting around it I guess.

But I'll double check the manual, I forget what it says about it right now.
