Im looking for a good car to convert to electric. Has anyone ever
heard of using a Fiero for this purpose?

Default Electric Fiero

Mike,
Here are a dozen or more examples to look at. Some of them list the
ranges that they can travel.

The answer to your question depends on a few factors not the least of
which is how much money you want to put into it? If you go the econo route
which means a DC motor and a half ton of lead acid batteries then the answer
is no, the Fiero makes a lousy EV. This is because it is inherently heavy to
begin with. The range could be as bad as just 30 miles on a charge. There
are a few four seaters out there that are actually lighter and make for more
practical EVs. I bought my current Fiero just for the purpose of converting
it to an EV. I then bought a book titled "Convert It" by Michael Brown of
Electro Automotive in Felton CA. In his book he directly sites the Fiero as
a poor choice for a donor car. I should point out though that his methods
are rather dated. He still lives in the lead acid world. I haven't converted
mine yet because I'm holding out for low cost Li-Ion batteries (or
equivelent) and modern AC drive systems.
