Default Dog Tired C-10

Hello Gentlemen (and Ladies where applicable) There has been a certain chevy c-10 pickup (1986) in my family ever since I can remember. My parents have reciently retired it at 347k miles and passed it along to me as a playtoy. (learned to drive on it... etc. Sentimental value. Some may understand.) For the age of the truck it is still in very good condition. Good paint, no rust, still no leaks... Only thing bad is the valve guide seals are done and it burns oil sometimes. Long story short I know of some people who have turned these trucks to the drag strip and I believe I have a good candidate to wind up at some shows and maybe a few trips down the quarter. Currently it is a standard 2wd c-10. Automatic, 305ci... I would like to wind up with the 502 and a new driveline. Locking rear and new tranz. But I know that is not all i need to do.Id like some input. Where do I start? What should be checkd and changed? andno, I will not be listening to the hecklers who tell me to junk it... i know someone will... I will try to dig up a pic i can post later on.. All ideas and info will be greatly appreciated..
