Default Mercedes-Benz gives the 101 on driving

Mercedes-Benz is best known worldwide for its high-performing luxury models. Car strength, however, is not only the key element for this German automaker as safety is also a top priority. True to form, Mercedes-Benz has arranged a driving program dubbed as ‘First Gear’ for young motorists toward an accident-free driving.

“Maximizing on-road safety is not the sole responsibility of our engineers and helping to achieve this important goal is something many of us can contribute to, hence our driver training programmes First Gear and Active Safety Experience,” said Horst von Sanden, who is the managing director for Mercedes-Benz Cars at Mercedes-Benz Australia / Pacific.

Aside from the precision-engineered Mercedes-Benz parts, the right knowledge on driving is very important for the safe operation of the vehicle thus the company’s subsidiary in Australia pushed for the active safety experience driving program. Mercedes-Benz owners and their licensed children aged 24 years old and below can avail of the training program for free. At the end of ‘First Gear’, the luxury car maker hopes to instill safety among every participant.

“As an automotive manufacturer, we have numerous important obligations,” said von Sanden. “One of these is safety, and our company has arguably the richest history in leading this important area of vehicle development.”

Mercedes-Benz’ First Gear driving program includes the basics of driving fused with how an automobile work. Having the knowledge on how the car operated can help young motorists to identify damaged or defective auto parts in the real world. The program also includes other practical notes about safety measures and the dos and don’ts on the road.

These are the rest of the main points of the First Gear program by Mercedes-Benz:

The learning objectives and areas of awareness:
* Understanding how the car operates
* Recognizing risks before and when driving
* Identifying and avoiding dangerous situations
* Safe vehicle spacing when driving
* Identifying the problematic attitudinal and behavioral issues often encountered by
young and inexperienced drivers

Practical exercises:

* Basic vehicles maintenance
* Techniques for correct vision and steering when driving
* Safe spacing when driving and distance demonstrations that illustrate the dangers of
‘tailigating’
* Emergency braking on wet and dry surfaces
* Evasive steering maneuvers
* Swerve-and-avoid exercises demonstrating the operation of ABS braking
* Experiencing a vehicle in slippery conditions both with and without the aid of ESP Electronic Stability Program ESP®

First Gear, which integrates the basic of driving and the power of technology, is part of the programs established by the Mercedes-Benz’ Active Safety Experience. Such training hopes to keep the motorists focused on the helpful attitudes and behaviors on the road for a safer driving experience.
